Chocolate Cake (Old recipe)

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 square of melted chocolate mixed in last

Bake in slow oven 3/4 hour.

Mix in order given

Pineapple Fudge

Sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup crushed pinapple (drained)
1 teaspoon valnilla
1 tablespoon marshmallow
Butter (size of a walnut)
Boil to soft boil stage first three ingredients.
Add rest and beat.
Pour into pan.

Mrs Lyman's Chilli Sauce (c. 1902)

This may be written in Jessie's hand. Certainly Grammy wasn't even born in 1902.

18 ripe tomatoes
6 onions
2 or 4 green peppers
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 cup vinegar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cloves

Scald and peel tomatoes. Chop onions and peppers. Add tomatoes chopped and other ingredients. Cook until thoroughly done. Seal in jars. (Can).

Potato + Carrot Pudding

Grammy has this recipe written down quite a number of times. This particular recipe has reference to Mrs Sherman Wheeler...her name was Eva... I will add comments with any differences to this 'olde' recipe.

1 cup grated carrot
1 cup grated potato
1 cup chopped suet or 1/2 cup butter
1 cup seeded raisins
1 cup currants
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspon baking soda
salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon allspice.

If made in one pudding, boil 3 hours.

Red Devils Food Cake

Another short but sweet recipe.

Red Devils Food Cake
1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/4 tsp soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
1/2 cocoa
1 cup milk
2 eggs beaten
vanilla

350 for 30-35 minutes.
